SEO Beginers Guide UK

What Is Search Engine Optimization?

Ask ten different people what Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is and you may receive ten different answers. For the purposes of this guide, SEO will be defined as the process of making changes to your site to make it more accessible to search engines and the people that arrive at your site from the search engines.

Search engine optimization is not about tricking the search engines. It is about understanding what elements search engines look for on a page to help determine the relevance of the page to a search term. By understanding what page elements the search engines take into consideration, and making adjustments to better present your page, you can improve your rank for a search term.

Search engines use programs called "spiders" or "crawlers" that visit the pages of your Web site and index the information on those pages. This includes the content that your visitors see when viewing your page and some of code used to build your page.

Taking search engine optimization into consideration before you build your site is the best approach. Fortunately, search engine optimization can also be performed after a site is built, but it will require making changes to your site.

It is important to understand that it will likely take more than a month before you see the results of your work. This is due to the fact that it takes time for the search engines to update their databases.

A basic overview of the content and basic code that the spiders or crawlers will look for on a page is covered here. The information provided is not specifically geared toward one search engine. Instead it takes a more general approach that will work well with most, if not all, search engines.
Each section starts with a brief description of the page element covered. You will then be provided with sources for further information including:

• Recommended Articles

These are articles that do a good job explaining the key concepts of the topic discussed. Each articles is linked with the option to open it in a new window.

• Check the Article Archives

Search Engine Guide provides a directory of thousands of search engine articles from experts across the Internet. This section will provide a link to the relevant category covering the page element being covered. The articles are arranged by date with the newest articles first. This will allow you to get the most up to date information and then do further research on older articles.

• Recommended Forum Threads

These are pointers to specific threads in search engine discussion forums that cover the page element being discussed.

• Books and Reports

In some case, there are books and reports that are available that cover the page element being discussed. For those that wish to have further research material, we provide links to sources that provide the books and reports.

• Domain Names

Having keywords in your domain is not a major consideration. For example, having a domain such as www.keyword-keyword-keyword.com isn't going to do much, if anything.
If keywords in your domain naturally make sense and would make it more memorable to your visitors, then don't be afraid to use keywords in your domain name. If you already have a domain name, don't worry about switching just because it isn't packed with keywords.

Don't purchase multiple domains with the idea of having multiple copies of your Web site to get multiple listings in the search engines. This will likely result in a penalty from the search engines.

Total Guide to Search Engine Optimization PART 1

First of all I will start with my own experience. I started my career in SEO about 4 months ago and I work at Netramind Technology as a Search Engine Optimizer.

I never realized that there was so much to the field of Search Engine optimization
until I began working with it. I will show you the ways and the means on how to
get your website in the top twenty in the major search engines.…

I cannot forget one name that has helped me a lot in SEO. Her name is SYLVIA WHITE.

The first thing you need to practice when optimizing your website is patience.
It can take up to twelve months to see your website listed top in the Search Engines.
I will give you step by step instruction for Search Engine Optimization.

If you know good SEO techniques you can demand more bucks.

What is SEO? (Search Engine Optimization)

SEO Stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the means to help your website
reach the top in the search engines. It is essential if you want your internet
business to flourish.

Why SEO? (Search Engine Optimization)

SEO means more traffic to your website from the search engines. By doing proper
optimization your can get absolutely free targeted traffic to your website. This
leads to more sales and more consumers to your website and ultimately higher revenue.

Dos and don’ts of SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Following things you must keep in mind while optimizing any website.

Don’ts ---

Cloaking is when you make two different pages, one for the search engines
and one for the viewer. In short search engine sees the page which is made for
getting listed in search engine but when user clicks on that page it will automatically
redirect to new page.

Invisible TEXT

Do not put invisible text on any pages of your website. Search engine can easily
detect this and it will kick you back. This is absolutely NOT ALLOWED. Never
put your background and your text color the same “for example” black
color background and black color text. Google may ban you permanently. Many
peoples are doing this to get their website TOP listed but this will permanently
ban your website.

So Invisible TEXT is STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED

Spamming

do not spam for the promotion of your website.

Submitting too many pages at the same time is strictly not allowed. Google
will definitely kick you back if you submit too many pages at the same time.
It is ok to submit 6-7 pages at the same time.

Do not change your Index OR default (Home) page (NEVER EVER)

Never change your home page completely, if you do this Google will kick you
back. Minor changes are allowed but if you do major changes you stand a good
chance of loosing your rank in Google. Do not change your home page completely.

If possible do not link to non-relevant websites. Google pays attention
to back links. If you link to non-relevant website it will not increase your
PR or your page rank.

Do not link to adult websites unless you are also running an Adult website.

Now we have seen “What not to do” I will explain “What
to do” in my second Article…. If you need any help please feel
free to email me your queries any time webmaster@1moneymania.com OR webmaster@1moneymania.com

SEO Guide to Choosing a Good Website Host

There are many factors we look at when choosing a host. There are literally thousands of providers in the World and there are many, many considerations to take into account. I like to take a systematic approach and narrow down my field of possible hosting provider candidates before I even look at prices. I write down a list of criteria that I must place on choosing an appropriate website host and these form my requirements base.

1. I look at the required target audience and their geographic location - where does you target market live? And I seek to answer the question; do I want to rank more highly in a regional index rather than an International Index? For example, let’s say you sell blue widgets and you are based in Melbourne, Australia. Through your website you only ship to addresses within Australia. In this situation you would ideally want to be listed more prominently in the Australian regional search indexes - like google.com.au

Why do we need to consider this? The reason is simple, the search engines will rank you more highly in a regional index if you use a hosting provider based in region or country in question. So, this is our first factor

2. Dedicated IP Addresses or Shared. When it comes to search engine optimization this can have an impact so I like to mention it as early as possible in choosing candidates for website hosting provider. Some SEO professionals believe that not having a dedicated IP can have a detrimental affect in Google rankings but from my experience it sometimes does and it sometimes doesn’t. I have had some sites come in with high PR rankings on shared IP’s and others when I shifted to a new IP the PR of the site jumped, so this is still a bit of a mystery when it comes to Google rankings. My advice from a logical SEO perspective is that you never know with whom you are sharing an IP address; they could be running a porn site or a warez site, so logic says get the dedicated IP if you can.

3. Requirements of the coding and database for my website. As an example you might be using a Joomla website and with this comes certain requirements - we need PHP, a MySQL database, a web server (HTTP), sendmail (if you want to get/end email), and some kind of file transfer access (FTP or SFTP). These might seem like fairly common requirements but there are additional items you might want to consider in this segment like the operating system of the host, Linux or windows or what other services they have running on the server, Perl CGI-BIN access, SSI, .htaccess, telnet or SSH crontabs. This item covers all dependencies your website has on services and software to make it perform correctly on the web server.

4. Reliability, Speed and Uptime Guarantee. There is nothing that can hurt your business more than your website visitors coming to your web site only to find that it’s inaccessible. You lose a lot of credibility and possibly even sales through your website being down. You should consider removing a candidate web host if they do not provide you with at least 99.9% uptime. Many web hosts will provide guarantees like this and you should seek to find them. Many web hosts have redundant back-up systems for Internet access that are used when the main connection fails for some reason. Do your research and find out how many redundant connections they have to ensure less chance of the website being unavailable. Website "Redundancy" means if any of the normal Internet connections are interrupted then an alternate Internet connection will be used.

5. Customer Support. One of the most frequent complaints that people make about website hosts is the lack of customer and technical support. From my experience it does not matter if you are an expert or a novice in web hosting, you still need a web host with a good customer support system. Many web hosts offer email, online chat and phone support while others are available only via email. In most cases, email support is adequate, but you should be cautious if a potential web host has no phone number available in case of an emergency.

Response times to support questions can vary greatly. Some web hosts may take only a few minutes to get back to you while others take days or even longer. It's important to find out what support any web host candidate provides. Searching on the Internet for references can often be of assistance in this regard.

6. Data Transfer - Traffic/Bandwidth. This is often referred to as "bandwidth", which is the amount of data that can be transferred from or to your website. Basically look for a service which provides a good amount of traffic when compared to other services available. Also when choosing your website host you should ensure that the plan you are on can be expanded so that any foreseen increases in traffic can be accommodated accordingly.

7. Disk space. Again, take into consideration other hosting providers and find a service which provides a good amount of storage space in comparison. You might want to take into account any foreseen increases in storage space required also and factor the ability to be able to change the plan to accommodate these needs.

8. Price. This is always a huge consideration after all you could get a dedicated server for about $200 per month but for the most part this is not required for a new business website. The normal business website is not going to have 5000 visitors per day when it first starts up. Of course there are exceptions and if you are expecting this much traffic then you should get the dedicated server straight away. If however you are like most normal businesses and looking to gain a web presence then I would advise you to get a shared server with a dedicated IP. For something like this the prices can vary from $5 per month to $100 per month. Often you get what you pay for, so you should look at what services they provide for the money and weigh these up against the benefits. Often there are extra's that are suitable for your particular needs, like Joomla support or content input or specialized hosting services.

SEO Changes - Are Your Sales Dropping As Your SEO Rankings Soar

Let's look back at a bit of history with search. Traditionally, SEO was all about gaining higher rankings for the most important keyword phrases. That was early in the game and back then, some people believed that was ALL you needed. After all if you show up number one for the best keywords then you must become a winner.

But then as search engine marketing evolved, people learned that it was not enough just to have top rankings for the right key phrases, but we learned the importance of being able to provide content that compelled the visitor to take action. No one benefits if they click on your number 1 page and just leave again by clicking the back button.

More and more search engines began to reward Webmasters who created in depth, high quality content that served a useful purpose and actually satisfied the reason why the searchers initiated the search in the first place. It still amazes me when I hear people trying to decipher some kind of secret coding when Matt Cutts talks. Hmmm, I wonder what Matt really means when he talk about quality content," they puzzle. He is simply telling you the truth. Google can recognize the context of a message through Artificial Intelligence. Write content that is written well for a human reader and you will be rewarded with some relevancy.

Let's not forget the advent of the Pay Per Click process which was a pretty big trend when it was first introduced at the time too. I remember some people saying that they would never do Pay Per Click, but it evolved into what it has become today. A well accepted form of paid advertising.

Your job as an SEO professional is to keep up to date in an ever changing environment and keep your self apprised of current and future trends. You want to keep yourself aware of what is coming next because that way, you'll always be able to assist your customers with up to date skills and advantages regardless of the changing search landscapes.

This time around, we examine a few of the challenges that SEOs will face in the future with the growing popularity of personalization of search. Personalization is the option that people can toggle on to improve their search results based on their personal interests. With personalization turned on, the search engine can gather information about the history of your searches and as the time you use it increases, it can actually become accustomed to your searching habits so as to present information that is more important or more interesting to you personally, than someone else.

So where does the challenge come in with SEO you ask?

The challenge is that as the popularity of personalization grows so will there likely be a diminishing effect on your ranking reports. In simple, it means that 4 people in the same household could all be taking turns using the very same computer and doing searches for the very same keyword phrase, and yet each person would typically see completely different results because of their personal use of the Internet and a growing history of different interests.

What this means is that you no longer can tell exactly what your ranking reports mean because where you rank for one person will not be the same as where you rank for the next person or the next. Thus ranking reports could very well become meaningless in time.

It should be understood that with personalization turned on, the search engine is not using a different algorithm. Instead, the algorithm is the same, but there is a shuffling of results based on the particular individuals history of usage. The search engines attempt to serve up even more relevant content to that individual based on their personal interests.

This in turn means that it could become very difficult to determine where your ideal buying audience is finding you because you will no longer be able to simply do a search and see who is ranking number 1. Obviously if you are interested in your own products and you own industry, you site may come up in the top results when you search. But what is the rest of the world seeing? With personalization growing in popularity, there is no way you can use the traditional methods to know.

Personalization of Search may bring a new dimension of satisfaction by providing the user with much more personalized results. After all, everyone wants the best search results. However, it is bound to pose a few challenges for those who have never thought out what is really happening and the far reaching impact that it will have with posing certain challenges with respect to traditional search engine marketing. As I mentioned in part 1, there are solutions. But we feel that it's important to help SEO students grasp the implications of how much things could possibly be affected.

So what are others saying about how big this change will be?

Michael Marshall is a respected SEO associate educator and advanced mathematician who has taught with Robin Nobles and I over the last several years. Michael is a technical expert who often teaches at our Ultra Advanced Symposiums.

Here is a recent quote from an article that Michael published he states that:

"Without a reliable means of rank checking, traditional SEO loses its foundations for optimization decisions. They can't tell who the leaders are. They've lost sight of the bellwethers. A bellwether is any entity in a given arena that serves to create or influence trends or to presage future happenings. Without a bellwether, for example, sheep might be left to wander aimlessly. Without a reliable means of rank checking, traditional SEO also loses its metrics for determining its success or failure regarding changes made for the sake of optimization. Traditional SEO is a process the methodology of which is predominantly trial and error."

6 Hot Tips on How to Get High Ranking in Google

Once you have your website ready, the next step is to introduce it to the search engines. There is no point having a wonderful website, but people are still not aware of it due to low ranking by search engines. Your website may be listed among the few last pages in a search result with thousands of pages. In order to get high ranks, the keywords are important. The titles, Meta tags and the first paragraph is important as well.

Tips to optimize your websites so that they are visible to search engines are:

Useful contents- to promote your website, the very first thing that you should consider are the contents, you may have a website with good design and has penetrated the top lists in search engine results, but if your contents are bad people will not come back anymore. You may be able to hit the target traffic, but if you are selling products your sales are not going anywhere.

Keyphrases- this is critical because it works to label your website and whenever someone searches using the keyphrases, the search engines will list your website in the results. The keyphrases should not be too common and preferably they are specific to what your website is all about. Usually people will pay more attention to keywords, but it is harder to obtain a high rank with keywords alone. Come up with a number of possible searches and use the best phrase from the list. There are services available on the internet which helps you with choosing keyphrase and keywords, such as WordTracker and KeywordDiscovery.

Titles- the titles for the contents in your website should not only be visible to people but also to the search engines. The rule is to use keyphrases as the titles. The recommended length of a title is between 15 to 20 words.

Meta tags- although one of the biggest search engines does not really pay attention to Meta tags, there are other search engines that still do that. It is still worth the effort to use Meta tags on public pages. Briefly, the Meta tag contains a short description of the webpage.

First paragraph- the first paragraph is important as it includes the description of the contents in a webpage. It contains the elaborated version of the title and Meta tags.

Avoid being classified as spam- there is a long list of don'ts that you should follow to avoid your website from being classified as a spam. An example is to keep the amount of keyphrases to a maximum of 10 in the contents, title and even in the Meta tags. Once a website has been classified as spam, the search engines will not list it.

The above steps are the major players in getting high ranking by the search engines. It is pointless to create a wonderful website with good contents when there is only a small amount of people who knows about it due to low ranking by search engines. Thus, to generate a large traffic to your website, you will have to promote your website to the search engines before anything else.
